The Servants are the Masters
by Paul Hartzer, ©2009

Chorus: The servants are the masters, the masters are the slaves
Let's see who is rambunctious and if anyone behaves

Let's decorate with holly, let's decorate with bay
Let's deck the halls with greenery then stay outside all day

We'll dance around the kitchen, we'll cook out in the den,
And if the stew is burning then we'll start it all again

Bring a jug of water, bring an urn of wine,
But don't bring any pickles 'cause we'd only drink the brine

A candle for my mother, my father will get nuts,
I got my son a wagon but it's stuck out in the ruts

An orgy in the bathhouse with Caesar and his wife,
But don't invite his mistress since that only causes strife

Sing a hymn for Saturn, for this will be his rite
And if you don't and he finds out, you'll have a chilly night

Sing a hymn for Juno, and one for Jupiter
And don't forget our Janus or you're sure to cause a stir

And don't forget the Lares, or they'll forget your home
And you won't have a place within the seven hills of Rome
