At Night When I Am Tired
by Paul Hartzer, ©2009

At night when I am tired,
I cannot get to sleep.
I'm much too scared of nightmares,
and the promises they keep.
At night when I am tired,
I cannot get to sleep,
So I hold my knees up to my chest
And I begin to weep...
I weep
I weep
I hold my knees up to my chest
And I begin to weep.

At night when I am tired,
I cannot join my dreams.
I'm much too scared of demons,
Much too scared it seems.
At night when I am tired,
I cannot join my dreams,
So I hold my hands over my ears
And I begin to scream...
I scream
I scream
I hold my hands over my ears
And I begin to scream.

At night when I am tired,
I cannot slip away.
I'm much too laden down among
the turmoils of the day.
At night when I am tired,
I cannot slip away,
But you have heard me weep and scream,
There's nothing left to say.
So I'll sleep
I'll sleep
You have heard me weep and scream,
There's nothing left to say.
