Vixrinddyig Orthography

The viv ("veev"), as the writing system is called, is a phonemic alphabetic system written from left-to-right. As a vestige of an earlier boustrophedon phase, many consonants have a backwards version when the letter appears after a vowel in the syllable. The Indzugand have a high awareness of the phonemic structure of their language, including syllable breaks, and this is reflected in the current version of the viv.

Vixzrinddyig phonology consists of fourteen distinct phonemes. Twelve of these are represented by distinct characters (six with versions for the onset [before the vowel] and coda [after the vowel]), and two by diacritics added to the three vowels. The diacritic+vowel pairs are treated as separate letters.

In addition, there are eight numerals (Vixrinddyig has an octal counting system) and three punctuation marks, for a total of 35 total characters.
